Chapter 606: Give and Take
Sang Zhe originally thought Zhang Xiaoying was just joking.
Who would have thought that just a few minutes later, the three of them were standing in a luxury suite at a hotel.
With Bai Ming’s supreme VIP card given to Zhang Xiaoying, she could spend freely at all the shops under the Floating Splendor Commerce. The hotel owner, upon seeing Zhang Xiaoying, immediately booked the entire top floor for her.
Only Sang Zhe and Yan Rouwan stood there, completely bewildered, looking at the grinning Zhang Xiaoying.
“Uh… dear, what’s going on here?”
“Booking a room, obviously.” Zhang Xiaoying replied nonchalantly, “Doesn’t my husband think sometimes hotels have more fun than at home?”
Not really.
I was just wondering why we’re suddenly checking into a hotel halfway through shopping?
You’re faster than those guys in the group seeing lewd pictures!
“But… isn’t that a bit inappropriate?”
Sang Zhe awkwardly said, “What about Senior Sister Yan?”
Zhang Xiaoying waved her hand dismissively, “Senior Sister Yan has been at our place for so long, she won’t mind.”
Sang Zhe turned to look at Yan Rouwan.
Yan Rouwan seemed a bit embarrassed but maintained her calm expression, saying coolly, “Actually, I am a bit concerned. If you two want to enjoy your evening, I could leave.”
“Hey! Don’t rush off!”
Zhang Xiaoying hurriedly pulled her back, saying, “You’re already here! The room is booked; at least stay for one night!”
“…You two can stay, I won’t sleep.”
“Just wait a moment, the hotel is delivering a lavish dinner. We can eat and then leave, right?”
Yan Rouwan fell silent.
Seeing her hesitate, Zhang Xiaoying quickly said, “You guys wait here; I’ll go order some food!”
Sang Zhe said, “Let me go; you keep Senior Sister Yan company—”
“Not with a cooking idiot like you who can’t even fry rice!”
Under Zhang Xiaoying’s glare, Sang Zhe sank back, sulking.
“Okay, I’m off then~”
Zhang Xiaoying cheerfully left the room.
In the next moment, she promptly locked the door and fiercely instructed the hotel owner beside her:
“Weld the door shut! If these two come out tonight, I’ll report you to the Commerce President!”
The owner nodded like a chick pecking at grains.
Inside the room, Sang Zhe and Yan Rouwan fell into silence.
Yan Rouwan said, “…Why does she think we can’t hear?”
Sang Zhe replied, “What if she’s doing it on purpose for you to hear?”
Yan Rouwan asked, “…Do you think she’ll come back?”
Sang Zhe sighed, “…What do you think?”
They exchanged awkward glances, and the atmosphere became incredibly uncomfortable.
Yan Rouwan, trying to maintain her cold demeanor, showed no intention of speaking first, even as her beautiful eyes occasionally flicked toward Sang Zhe.
Sang Zhe remembered Nian Nian’s advice—if Yan Rouwan wasn’t speaking, he wouldn’t either. So he just sat there quietly.
The luxurious suite was so quiet it was eerie. The two were willing to endure the awkwardness, each stubbornly refraining from initiating conversation.
This suffocating silence lasted for over ten minutes.
Finally, Sang Zhe couldn’t take it anymore and said, “Forget it. I don’t really know what Xiaoying is up to, but being stuck in a hotel is not ideal.”
“I’ll head back; Senior Sister Yan, if you want to stay and wander some more, feel free.”
As he spoke, he created a crack in the air and was about to step through.
Just as he had one foot out the door, a voice called from behind:
“If you leave, the hotel owner is going to be in trouble.”
Sang Zhe paused and turned around irritably, “What does that have to do with me?”
“Didn’t you hear Xiaoying say?” Yan Rouwan struggled to keep her tone calm, “If we leave tonight, she’ll blame the hotel owner.”
“So what? Are we supposed to stay here for a night?”
“…I don’t mind.” Yan Rouwan purposefully turned her gaze away.
She didn’t even realize if this counted as her keeping Sang Zhe from leaving.
But she had to admit, when Sang Zhe was about to step out, her heart was a bit reluctant.
She didn’t care about maintaining her aloof image anymore; those words slipped out almost instinctively.
After saying that, she shot a guilty glance at Sang Zhe.
Sang Zhe seemed oblivious and sighed, “Sigh. Fine. Let’s just make the best of this night.”
With that, he walked over to the bed, propping his legs up and lying down, grumbling:
“Seriously, what’s up with Xiaoying’s weirdness today? Is she having an early midlife crisis after giving birth?”
Yan Rouwan felt a bit relieved that Sang Zhe wasn’t leaving and continued pretending to be cool while silently cheering herself on.
…Yan Rouwan, hold on.
As long as you stay quiet, he’ll have to speak first!
——
——
Midnight.
Three hours had passed since they entered the room.
During that time, both of them had managed a silent agreement to not speak a word to each other.
Sang Zhe lay on the bed, dozing off one moment, then engrossed in his communication device the next, completely treating the place as his own room, ignoring Yan Rouwan beside him.
Initially, Yan Rouwan could pretend to meditate, but as time progressed, her little emotions piled up more and more.
…Why hasn’t he come over to talk to me yet?
Is he really planning to just endure the entire night?
A lone man and woman sharing a room, and he’s not even interested?
Even a little concern would be fine! Didn’t he promise to chase me?
He can’t be… really like the omniscient said?
Men are like this; if they pursue someone for too long without response, they give up?
Have I been too cool for my own good and hurt his feelings?
As she thought, Yan Rouwan became increasingly flustered. Lost in her thoughts, she forgot to maintain her usual expression.
On the bed, Sang Zhe, pretending to engage with his communication device, was really just sneaking glances at Yan Rouwan.
Though he had no idea about her rich inner turmoil, he understood from her increasingly sullen expressions that Nian Nian was right.
Indeed.
Being a relentless simp leads to a rocky road.
Give and take; sometimes, he had to draw back a bit to keep it fresh.
It only proved that Nian Nian’s skills in flirting were far superior to his!
Thinking this way, he figured he just needed to hold out a bit longer.
Who knows? Maybe Senior Sister Yan wouldn’t be able to take it anymore and would speak to him first—
“Hey! Sang Zhe!”
Hearing the somewhat irritated voice of Yan Rouwan from behind, Sang Zhe couldn’t help but grin.
…Finally!
