Chapter 106: If You’re Gonna Act, Act Fully
So, they said it was good news.
In reality, when Young Master Sang got home, he was dead tired and didn’t bother to report to his boss right away. Instead, he planned to catch some sleep first.
Tomorrow was soon enough for a report.
However, the very next morning, while Sang was still snoozing, his communication device was bombarded with calls.
It was a flood of calls from Hua Jianglian.
“Hello… Sect Leader, you looking for me?”
“Sang! Zhe!”
Sang was still half-asleep when Hua Jianglian’s booming voice startled him awake.
“Right now! Immediately! Get to my office!”
“If I don’t see you within ten minutes, don’t even think about a bonus this year!” Her teeth were clenched, as if she might crumble him into bits.
Sang woke up quickly, his heart racing.
Though he had no clue what he had done wrong, it was obvious from her tone that she was not happy.
Especially when she mentioned the bonus. Scared out of his wits, Sang quickly got dressed, skipping brushing his teeth, and dashed to the office.
Finally bursting into the office, he found it packed with high-level officials from the Demon Cultivators.
Everyone was staring at him.
Hua Jianglian was glaring at him, hands on her hips, her big doe eyes radiating fury.
“Sect Leader, esteemed leaders,” Sang chuckled awkwardly, “What’s… going on?”
“Why don’t you take a look for yourself.”
Hua Jianglian tossed him a stack of invitations with a sharp flick of her wrist.
Sang was initially puzzled, but upon glancing at the invites, his face paled.
The thick stack was filled with condolence invitations from various surrounding sects and families.
The content was nearly identical, especially the core question, which was the same across the board.
… When did your sect see a Major Power? Can we meet up for a chat?
Uh-oh. Sang’s face went white.
“Major Power?” Hua Jianglian crossed her arms, her face fuming, “When did I not know that I stepped into the Major Power realm?”
“Or is it your newly recruited Yu Xia who reached Major Power?”
“Surely it can’t be you, right?”
Her icy gaze swept over Sang.
Sang shivered in fear, smiling sheepishly as he tried to explain:
“Sect Leader, it was for the good of the company… If I could just scare off those two sect leaders, we wouldn’t have to worry about intruders on Water Moon Sect’s land anymore, right?”
“It’s just… I didn’t know those two had such big mouths, they’re practically wide open. In just one night, they managed to inform so many sects!”
He recounted his actions from yesterday.
But when he got to the part about “Demon Cult Emperor, the Prison Demon Sovereign,” he couldn’t help it.
Hua Jianglian burst into laughter, clutching her stomach.
Even Tang Yubbing and Yan Rouwan couldn’t hold back their giggles.
The office was instantly filled with a cheerful atmosphere.
Sang: “… Was it that funny?”
I personally thought it was pretty cool… he muttered while scratching his head.
“Cool, my foot!”
Hua Jianglian jumped up, poking Sang in the forehead angrily. “Thanks to your melodramatic performance, now we have trouble on our hands.”
“The emergence of a Major Power in the cultivation world is already a big deal, not to mention appearing in our sensitive entity like the Demon Cultivators.”
“Now the cultivation world might even say we should be elevated to the fourth Great Holy Land.”
“What do you think? How are we supposed to clean this mess up?”
Sang rubbed his sore forehead and mumbled:
“Well, isn’t this a good thing? If we become a Holy Land, no one would dare mess with us, right? More money too!”
“Good, my foot!”
Hua Jianglian exclaimed angrily, “Our Demon Cult already has a bad reputation, and we’re shunned everywhere we go.”
“If things escalate further and we really draw the attention of the Major Power old fogeys from the three Great Holy Lands, we’d essentially be finished. An actual Major Power could wipe us out in an instant!”
Sang scratched his head, feeling sheepish.
“I don’t care.”
Hua Jianglian huffed, hands on her hips: “I give you until sunset to think of a solution, otherwise, otherwise…”
She pouted for a long while, considering some deviously harsh punishment.
But in the end, she merely crossed her arms and said:
“Otherwise, I’ll demote you to the logistics department, your new title will be janitor, and you’ll be cleaning my home every day!”
Sang was horrified.
Isn’t that mixing work with personal issues?
That’s so sneaky!
But Sang still put on a brave face and promised, “Don’t worry, Sect Leader! I’ll definitely think of a perfect solution!”
Hua Jianglian gave him a huffy look.
“Go on now, before sunset, I’ll be waiting for you in the office.”
——
——
As he walked atop the Demon Cult mountain, Sang sighed heavily.
Sigh.
Things got out of hand while trying to act cool.
His intentions were good.
As long as he scared off the two sect leaders, they wouldn’t dare lay claim on Water Moon Sect, making future operations smoother.
But nobody expected those two would be not just scared, but terrified out of their wits.
Even though he never claimed to be a Major Power, those two old coots had already built him up in their heads as an ancient Major Power master who’d resurfaced after a thousand years!
They were so frightened they told all the surrounding sects overnight.
One panic turned him from an obscure junior prison guard into an internet celebrity overnight.
If this thing escalated to the three Great Holy Lands…
Maybe a real Major Power would come out of retirement.
Just thinking about his stable, high-paying job potentially going down the drain made Sang feel all sorts of despair.
“Sigh, what a true company slave. Always stuck with the blame due to bizarre reasons at work.”
“What to do now…”
“Nian Nian,” he desperately called out her name as if pinning all his hopes on her, “Do you think I still have a chance?”
Next to him, the bespectacled girl in a pleated skirt slowly materialized, giving a cold huff:
“Host, please don’t keep causing trouble then expecting the system to clean up the mess. The system has its own tasks and can’t always babysit you.”
“Stop with the sarcasm. If I sink, you’ll be dragged down too,” Sang shot back. “Think of something!”
Nian Nian adjusted her glasses, unflustered:
“Since everyone has already assumed the Demon Cult has a Major Power and is cautious because of it…”
“Why not go all out? Act the part from start to finish.”
Sang suddenly had a bad feeling.
“Wait, maybe you shouldn’t say your plan—”
“Hold a press conference, loudly announcing to all sects.”
“The Demon Cult will officially elevate to Holy Land on a chosen day.”
