Chapter Sixty-Two: The Favorite Regret of the Little Demoness
Walking back to prison, Si Jingzhu’s steps inexplicably turned light and bouncy.
She bounced around, hands behind her back, humming a tune softly.
Her lotus skirt gently puffed up and fell, looking as lovely as an umbrella opening and closing.
“Seems like you’re in a good mood.”
“Mm.” Si Jingzhu smiled lightly.
“I thought today was just another ordinary day, only to discover years later that it was the best day of my life. A day like this will never come again.”
Seeing her charming smile and soft eyes, Sang Zhe exhaled with relief:
“That’s good.”
“So, what’s next? Have you figured out what you want to do?”
Si Jingzhu pondered for a moment, her steps slowing down.
“…I don’t know.”
She blinked: “Even though I don’t like what that woman said, she did have a point.”
“It seems like wherever I go, I face the risk of being eaten.”
“Then, what about staying in the Demon Cult?” Sang Zhe said, “I won’t tell anyone your identity as the Original Immortal.”
“Even so, it could still be discovered.”
Suddenly, Si Jingzhu turned around, playfully clasping her hands behind her back as she looked at him.
“Eh, what should I do?”
Though it sounded like she was asking herself.
Her mischievous eyes, however, were fixed on Sang Zhe.
Sang Zhe paused: “Are you asking me?”
“Wait… you don’t mean you want to stick to me, right?”
“How does that count as sticking?”
Si Jingzhu let out a coy huff, crossing her arms and gently shrugging: “I am the Original Immortal. Eating me can bring the dead back to life, extend longevity, and increase cultivation.”
“Everyone else fights over me, and even those in the Crossing Tribulation Stage battle for me.”
“If I were to stick to you, wouldn’t that be a bargain for you?”
Sang Zhe hesitated.
…Your ‘medicine’ isn’t something to take lightly.
Just look at the miserable state of Master Yu Xia earlier.
The scariest part is that Sang Zhe didn’t want to find out what it felt like to tongue-kiss himself.
Oh dear.
“Besides.”
Si Jingzhu suddenly flicked her hair with great vanity: “I’m a rare beauty in the world.”
“If I worked as a maid in your house, I’d be both beautiful and eye-catching. Wouldn’t that be impressive to say?”
“Uh, but I already have a maid…” Sang Zhe started.
“I know, a guy like you who’s antisocial, insecure, and not liked by many probably has a filthy house, right?”
“Uh, but my maid…”
“Then there’s nothing to be done. It’s my fault for bullying you before. I’ll have to reluctantly help out at your house and pay off my debt.”
“Uh, but I…”
“You should be grateful to me,” Si Jingzhu said proudly, “A gloomy shut-in like you doesn’t get much chance to interact with girls, right? Don’t you sneak under the covers at night to ‘handle yourself’?”
“What can I say, I can be compassionate and warm your bed for you—”
“But I’ve already slept with Zhang Xiaoying.”
After Sang Zhe said that, Si Jingzhu’s proud expression solidified instantly, and she turned her head, dumbfounded.
“…Eh?”
“A few days ago, when Yu Xia attacked the mountain gate, I couldn’t go home.” Sang Zhe scratched his head, “I had to share a blanket with Little Ying and sleep together.”
“Plus, Little Ying is great at household chores; her house is always clean.”
“Her cooking is also delicious, and I love it.”
“Now that I’m practically middle-class, I plan to take a vacation soon and take Little Ying on a trip.”
After saying that, he smiled shyly:
“I’ve owed Little Ying a proper confession for a while now. Even though we look like an old married couple, we should still have some ceremony, right?”
“This trip is the perfect opportunity to prepare.”
Si Jingzhu stared, mouth agape.
At some point, a very forced smile crept onto her lips.
“Ah…?”
“No, wait! You’re lying to me, right?”
“You were still that gloomy, introverted young boy back at the Immortal Gate.”
“How could you have friends? Clearly, no one wanted to play with you except me…”
Sang Zhe felt a bit embarrassed.
“Well, that was the past.”
“Now I’m doing quite well in the Demon Cult. I have good relationships with my boss and colleagues, and there are no conflicts.”
“After working hard for so long, even the fairy I captured has become a senior executive and is willing to support me.”
“My life is going pretty well now.”
Si Jingzhu still couldn’t accept it.
No way.
This… isn’t what she imagined, right?
Isn’t the usual plot supposed to be her asking to be his maid?
Then he would blush and shyly accept happily, right?
And as they lived together, they’d spark some chemistry… or it doesn’t even have to be chemistry; she could just create it.
Like leaving the door open while showering to entice him to sneak a peek.
Or drunkenly leaning against him when tipsy.
Then pretending to get into the wrong bed at night and sneak under his covers.
Before long, he would get used to her company and even become dependent on her.
And then… then…
But why is it like this now?
“If you don’t have a place to go for the time being…”
Sang Zhe was still seriously contemplating: “You could live with Yan Rouwan for now.”
“She just got a big house with plenty of empty rooms. It would be convenient for you two girls to live together.”
“After all, you were once sisters in the same sect, so it would be nice to have some support… hey, what are you doing?”
Sang Zhe saw Si Jingzhu suddenly timidly clutching at his clothes.
Her face revealed an expression on the verge of tears, her eyes filling with sorrow:
“You… you already have a maid?”
“Yeah.”
“You don’t need me anymore?”
“Yeah.”
“I… am I too late…?”
“Uh.” Sang Zhe suddenly didn’t know how to respond.
This silence seemed to pop Si Jingzhu’s tear ducts like a balloon.
She burst into tears dramatically, crying her heart out.
“Wahhhh! Noooo!”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to bully you… please don’t hate me…”
“Sang Zhe! Don’t take my Sang Zhe away, boohoo!”
“Don’t leave me! I was wrong; please don’t abandon me…”
Sang Zhe had never seen anything like this.
Si Jingzhu was crying as if her heart was shattered, both pitiful and wronged, her red eyes glistening like a lost stray cat.
“No, please, don’t cry!”
Sang Zhe fumbled around for a handkerchief, wiping her tears while trying to comfort her like a child:
“I get it! I won’t ignore you! I’ll make sure to arrange everything properly.”
“I don’t want arrangements…”
She clung tightly to Sang Zhe’s hand, sniffling as she cried: “I want to stay by your side!”
“I… I can do anything. I’ll repay my debt however you want!”
“Just let me be a maid or a mattress, anything is fine!”
“Wahhh, don’t leave me…”
And so, amidst the clamor and noise.
The system’s prompt flashed by without a trace.
