Chapter 58

Chapter 58: You Really Don’t Know When to Quit, Do You?

Taking a deep breath several times before entering Yan Rouwan’s office, Young Master Sang adjusted his mindset.

He had to keep himself from getting overly aggressive whenever he saw this wicked woman.

How exasperating!

My dear Punishment Department head!

Just thinking about it made him feel irritable, especially when remembering Yan Rouwan’s sly, playful smile.

Even more infuriating!

But as a qualified office worker, Young Master Sang had grown accustomed to leaving his emotions at the door.

After a deep breath, he knocked gently on Yan Rouwan’s office door.

“Come in!”

As he stepped inside, Young Master Sang was taken aback.

He had just been here not long ago, yet the room was now decorated in a way that felt less like an office and more like a pet shop.

Everywhere he looked were shelves, toys, scratching posts, and slides meant for cats.

Various uniquely designed cat houses filled the room to the brim.

The only workspace left for Yan Rouwan was a tiny desk.

At that moment, Yan Rouwan was sitting in her chair, cradling a lazy, half-sleeping white cat named Jiao Jiao.

“You’re here?”

Young Master Sang asked in disbelief, “You said you would tidy up the office, and this is what you call tidying up?”

Yan Rouwan gently scratched Jiao Jiao’s chin, her eyes sparkling. “What do you think? Looks nice, right?”

“Yeah, it does look nice,” he replied awkwardly. “But is this really an office?”

“Why not? It’s an office! It should be a comfortable space for work, right?”

“Fair point.”

“You could also decorate your workspace with things you like.”

Yan Rouwan waved her hand nonchalantly. “After all, I’m the Punishment Department head now. No one dares to question how I set things up.”

Young Master Sang contemplated for a moment before saying, “I like looking at… well, questionable pictures.”

“Filling your workspace with those might not be quite appropriate, don’t you think?”

Yan Rouwan: “?”

“Speaking of which,” Young Master Sang sat down across from her, pointing at Jiao Jiao. “Isn’t she supposed to be at home? When’d you bring her out?”

“Of course she listens to me, since she’s my cat.”

Yan Rouwan suddenly smiled mysteriously. “Plus, Jiao Jiao has developed some intelligence. Communicating with her is much easier now.”

“Want to know something from her… makes it convenient too.”

Young Master Sang: “?”

Now it was his turn to be confused.

“Let’s get to the point.”

While stroking the cat, Yan Rouwan continued, “Aren’t you mad at me for taking your position as head? Like, really angry?”

“Not at all! Who would dare?”

“I’m just a small Foundation Establishment cultivator.” Young Master Sang’s face twitched as he forced a smile. “Like, how could a Foundation Establishment cultivate even be head? Ridiculous. It’s like a toad wishing to eat swan meat, utterly delusional…”

Still insisting he wasn’t angry, huh?

His resentment was practically tangible at this point.

Looking at Young Master Sang’s sorrowful expression, Yan Rouwan thought he looked somewhat cute and couldn’t help but softly reassure him, “Don’t blame the Sect Leader and Yu Bing. They had no other choice.”

“The Demon Cult is not like the Immortal Sect. In the Immortal Sect, if you take a shortcut to get promoted, the worst that happens is someone might poke you in the back.”

“But here? If someone feels a Foundation Establishment cultivator can be head, who knows, they might just challenge you midway.”

“Me stepping in to take your spot is actually for your own good. It saves you some trouble.”

Young Master Sang huffed a few times but turned his head away sulkily.

Seeing he was still miffed, Yan Rouwan blinked, gently patting Jiao Jiao.

Understanding the cue, Jiao Jiao hopped off her lap and nuzzled against Young Master Sang’s leg.

“Alright~”

Yan Rouwan walked over, taking his hand and gently shaking it. “Don’t be upset, okay?”

“If you’re unhappy, just vent your frustrations on me.”

Young Master Sang shot her a sideways glance.

“Vent on you? How exactly do I do that?”

“I am your spiritual servant, after all.”

With a playful glint in her eye, Yan Rouwan leaned closer, fluttering her eyelashes coyly.

“Every command you give me, I can’t resist. You’re my master, and what you say is everything to me.”

“You can do whatever you want…”

Young Master Sang furrowed his brows, deep in thought.

“…Is there no limit to how much I can go overboard?”

“It’s fine no matter how overboard you go.”

After saying this, Yan Rouwan licked her lips expectantly, hoping Young Master Sang would drop the gentleman act.

Even if he were a little beastly, she wouldn’t mind.

But as she imagined various beastly things Young Master Sang could say, one thought completely slipped her mind.

After a lengthy consideration, Young Master Sang finally said tentatively,

“Then, if I, as your master, command you…”

“To, um, you know, your, uh, salary as head…”

“To give, um, me half… for your food and cat expenses.”

“You wouldn’t be mad, would you?” he asked cautiously.

Yan Rouwan: “…Huh?”

“Was that too much?”

Young Master Sang quickly shook his head. “How about… forty percent?”

“……”

“How about thirty percent? Thirty percent could work.”

“……”

“Okay, if not, then twenty percent… or you can just give a little? Anything would be fine!”

Seeing him tentatively testing the waters, Yan Rouwan suddenly felt a little dejected and defeated.

She couldn’t understand why she was still less enticing than a mere salary figure.

“Forget it.”

With a tired and forlorn pout, she looked away and quietly said, “You can have it all. I don’t need that much money by myself.”

“Giving it all away is just heartless. Keep half for your pocket money,” he urged.

“……Do as you wish.”

Seeing Yan Rouwan not refusing, Young Master Sang finally felt a bit better.

Thinking about it this way, he had actually become the Punishment Department head.

He simply spent half of the salary to employ a secretary to manage his work.

He could remain a leisurely little interrogator while having the authority of a head when it mattered.

That felt fantastic—better than those greedy capitalists!

Now, he suddenly felt less miserable.

Noticing Young Master Sang’s sudden cheerful demeanor, Yan Rouwan bit her lip.

A hint of something mysterious glimmered in her beautiful eyes.

“Sang Zhe.”

“Mhm?”

Young Master Sang turned toward Yan Rouwan.

But she didn’t speak. Instead, she lowered her head in silence and, after a long pause, softly said,

“Master Yu Xia has already been locked up in a special prison.”

“The Sect Leader personally ordered it, and you’re fully responsible for the entire jail. No one is allowed in without your permission.”

“There’s no deadline for this task, so you can take your time.”

Young Master Sang seemed to realize something and asked quietly,

“How does it feel to see your former mentor become your prisoner?”

“Does it feel difficult?”

Yan Rouwan’s beautiful eyes dropped, her gaze shifting to the side.

“…Not really.”

“When those people attacked me in the back mountains of the Immortal Sect.”

“I already owed her nothing.”
