Chapter 239

Chapter 239: Deception, Siege, Annihilation. (3)

A few blood-soaked barbarians awaited Ghislaine with crazed eyes.

Most barbarians were still preoccupied with attacking the Shield Soldiers.

Chak! Chak! Chak!

As Ghislaine rushed forward, Perdium’s Shield Soldiers slowly closed the distance, but not a single barbarian noticed.

Dududududu!

The barbarians had already repelled many charging cavalry. One more charging was just laughable.

Ghislaine smirked down at the arrogant barbarians.

He enjoyed it even more when his opponents were arrogant, knowing the thrill of shattering that pride.

Kwahhh!

“Graaaah!”

Ghislaine swiftly approached the barbarians, breaking through their formation. The barbarians couldn’t even muster the courage to block him; his movements were far too fast and strong.

However, with so many barbarians clustered together, Ghislaine had no choice but to eventually halt his charge.

“This guy is alone!”

“Kill him quickly!”

“Deal with him and push forward!”

The barbarians shouted confidently as they moved. They believed that even if the opponent seemed a bit strong, he was just one person. A few warriors should be able to take him down easily.

But that was their misconception.

Buwuwung!

Purfurpuck!

As Ghislaine swung his spear from atop his horse, the heads of the rushing barbarians flew off simultaneously.

It was truly divine spear technique.

Even the barbarians charging from behind were startled and froze in place.

“Ucha!”

Taking advantage of the moment, Ghislaine dismounted and spun his spear around as he spoke.

“I came a bit too fast, didn’t I?”

Was it a problem that he moved too quickly alone? The Knights of Penris hadn’t even arrived at this location yet.

Ghislaine chuckled, clicking his tongue.

“Tsk tsk, still lacking in training, I see.”

It was a statement that would make the knights feel wronged. When he had rushed ahead, even Gillian repeatedly warned him that he was moving too fast, yet he ignored all that and charged in alone.

In his previous life, Ghislaine had often jumped into enemy territory alone.

Even when his followers pleaded for him to at least wait, Ghislaine always led the way.

To the most dangerous places, first.

This was the principle of the King of Mercenaries, known as one of the seven mighty of the continent.

Whiiing!

Just as Ghislaine glanced back to check on his followers, a barbarian warrior swung an axe at his back.

Thud!

Ghislaine lightly blocked it with his spear and instantly snatched the axe from the barbarian’s hand.

“Huh?”

The barbarian was so stunned that he didn’t even realize how his weapon was taken, his eyes wide with shock.

Puhk!

Ghislaine smashed the barbarian’s head with the stolen axe and murmured.

“Hmm, this feels pretty good.”

Liking the weight of the axe, Ghislaine discarded his spear and picked up another axe from the ground.

Holding an axe in each hand, Ghislaine grinned.

“Alright, shall we start again?”

The barbarians began to seethe with rage at his nonchalant demeanor.

“This arrogant bastard!”

“How dare he touch a warrior’s weapon!”

“I’ll tear your corpse apart and offer it as a sacrifice to the gods!”
“Die!”

The barbarians charged in, screaming. But as Ghislaine swung her axes mercilessly, they were split in half, head and body alike.

In the chaos, the barbarians up front, who were facing shield soldiers, began to turn their heads one by one.

“What the hell is that guy?”

“When did he show up behind us?”

“Kill him quickly and move!”

Soon, the barbarians surrounding them began to rush toward Ghislaine.

But a few couldn’t possibly take her on. So, more and more of them tried to swarm her.

“Graaaaaah!”

Bang! Bang! BANG!

With each swing of her axe, the screams of warriors echoed loudly.

Yet, the nearby barbarians kept charging at Ghislaine like moths drawn to a flame.

As Ghislaine continued to pile up the number of fallen warriors, the number of surrounding fighters increased as well.

Seeing Ghislaine completely surrounded, Zvalter gripped his sword tightly and tried to step in. But Randolf quickly grabbed his arm and said,

“It’s too dangerous to go in now! Trust the Grand Duke as promised and wait! Going now will only cause more trouble!”

“But Ghislaine is all alone!”

“Look! The knights are coming! Just a bit longer! The Grand Duke is not someone who goes down easily anymore!”

Zvalter turned to where Randolf pointed. Indeed, he could see a cloud of dust rising in the distance as a group approached.

“Ugh!”

Zvalter clenched his teeth and released the grip on his sword. They were coming. The Knights of Penris were charging in like crazy.

Swoosh!

Ghislaine, covered head to toe in the enemies’ blood, began to release a red steam from her body.

No one could keep up with the speed of Ghislaine, now completely drenched in red.

“Graaaaah!”

As she swung her axe, the body of the barbarian in front was cleaved in half. Taking advantage of the opening, another barbarian tried to attack her from behind.

“Die!”

Swish.

In that moment, Ghislaine’s body swayed and vanished. The target-less barbarian was bewildered.

“Uh, where—”

Crack!

His last murmuring, as his skull was crushed, scattered into the air.

“Whooo…”

With each breath Ghislaine exhaled, red smoke wafted out.

She had single-handedly slaughtered dozens of fierce warriors in an instant. When compared to normal soldiers, it was like killing hundreds of them.

Finally, the barbarians began to feel fear in the face of her overwhelming power.

“Ah, a demon…”

“The blood-red demon has returned…”

“The tribe’s doom is approaching…”

Among them, a myth was passed from mouth to mouth. It told of a time when the Forest of Monsters burned, and from it emerged a demon stained in red blood who killed everyone.

Though the Forest of Monsters was intact and Ghislaine wasn’t from there, her appearance, drenched in blood and emanating a red aura, could easily mislead them.

The demon grinned, showing her pristine white teeth, all covered in blood.

“Not coming? Then should I come to you?”

Bang! BANG!

Ghislaine started moving again, swinging her two axes.

“Ughhhhh!”

The barbarian warriors charged in, screaming to shake off their fear.

Crack! Crack!

Corpses piled up ceaselessly, and Kushtu, witnessing the scene, was horrified.

‘What the hell is that guy?!’

He’d intentionally positioned many warriors in the back to save his troops. But now, because of one guy suddenly appearing from behind, they were dying even more.

This couldn’t continue. He had to kill that monster-like guy, no matter what.

“Kill him! Everybody, let’s all go and take him down first!”

The great warriors around Kushtu sprang into action. Following behind the great warriors, the fighters rushed towards Ghislaine.

“Uooooo!”

Dozens of great warriors and fighters lunged at Ghislaine all at once.

Clang! Clang! Clang!

“Graaaaah!”

The sounds of weapons clashing filled the air without stopping. Simultaneously, the warriors’ screams showed no signs of stopping.

Ka-ka-ka-caang!

Ghislaine’s movements grew faster. The speed at which she blocked attacks and killed opponents was so rapid that at one point, it sounded like the clashing of weapons was a continuous echo reverberating through the air.
The speed of killing was so fast that, at one point, the sound of weapons clashing seemed to resonate endlessly without break.

“Protect the Tribe Chief!”

“Block the front!”

“Kill this guy first!”

The number of warriors blocking Ghislaine increased even more. They had to stop him from reaching Kushtu, who was commanding the battlefield.

With so many enemies, Ghislaine couldn’t rush to Kushtu in one go.

As he systematically killed the enemies blocking his way and moved forward, the Knights of Penris finally arrived on the battlefield.

Thud thud thud thud!

Leading the charge was Gillian, galloping like a madman. If it were just him, he could easily catch up with Ghislaine, but he had to lead the other knights and couldn’t follow right away.

The Penris Knights weren’t yet skilled enough in cavalry tactics to execute long-range charges. Charging too fast would only scatter their formation.

Gillian had no choice but to keep the assault formation as he followed Ghislaine’s orders.

“My Lord!”

With a fearsome expression, he focused ahead, and as soon as he felt confident he had fulfilled his duty, he urged his horse to reach Ghislaine even faster.

“Che! Wait, old man!”

Not far away, Kaor gritted his teeth, spurring his horse to catch up with Gillian.

Thud thud thud thud!

As the dust cloud drew near, Zvalter shouted.

“Move!”

Clink clank! Clink clank! Clink clank!

The shield soldiers changed their formation. The front line, which had been stretched thin, began to curve gently, wrapping around the barbarians on either side.

The barbarian warriors, drunk on the madness of battle, failed to notice this.

They were too busy trying to break through the shields of the formation or stop Ghislaine who was rampaging from the back.

It was only when the Knights of Penris were close that they noticed the forces behind them and shouted.

“Enemies! The enemies are coming!”

“Cavalry charge! Scatter!”

The barbarians, who had clustered together to face Ghislaine, frantically tried to spread out. But on their flanks, the Penris shield soldiers were tightly blocking them.

“Oh no!”

“We’re surrounded!”

“You bastards! It was a trap!”

The barbarians finally realized. The enemies hadn’t recklessly abandoned their fortress; they intended to wipe them out entirely.

Thud thud thud thud!

As the knights approached, the barbarians banged their shields with feral expressions. But the Penris Army also gritted their teeth and endured.

They had endured so far for this moment.

Finally, Gillian was the first to dive into the enemy ranks.

Boom!

Several barbarians were sent flying in all directions from Gillian’s charge.

“My Lord!”

He charged straight towards Ghislaine. He couldn’t forgive himself if even a single injury befell his lord while he was away.

Gillian swung his weapon wildly without caring for his own safety.

Then, the Knights of Penris crashed into the cluster of barbarians.

Boom!

“Uwaaaaah!”

The barbarians screamed as they were literally torn apart by the knights’ charge.

A few frustrated ones charged at them, but they couldn’t stop the simultaneous onslaught of hundreds of knights.

Splat!

The bodies of the barbarians burst and were crushed in an instant. It was on a whole different level compared to when dozens of knights and cavalry had charged just moments before.

All the hundreds of knights unleashed their mana.

There was not a single one who could withstand that tremendous destructive power.

This was the shock tactics that the Mercenary King Ghislaine loved to use and bragged about most.

As the knights invaded, the barbarian formation scattered into several groups. Ghislaine didn’t miss the opportunity and yelled.

“Gillian! Kaor! Find and kill the tribe chiefs! The ones with fancy banners on their helmets!”

“Understood!”

“You can count on us!”

Gillian and Kaor each led their knights to break through. Naturally, the number of warriors charging at Ghislaine decreased.

Swoosh! Swoosh!

Ghislaine ruthlessly swung the axe in his hands, moving ever further forward.

No one could block his path. One by one, the warriors that dared to challenge him had their heads smashed, arms severed, and necks flying off, creating a gruesome path.
No one could block the way ahead. Every warrior that charged at Ghislaine had their heads crushed, arms severed, and necks severed, clearing a path.

Finally, Zvalter’s shout, which had been waiting for the right moment, echoed loudly on the battlefield.

“Everyone! Attack!”

Clang! Clang! Clang!

A slight gap appeared between the tightly packed shields, and spears sprang forth from within.

Thwack! Thwack! Thwack!

The barbarians clinging to the shields were slaughtered before they could respond to the sudden assault.

The Penris Army had endured everything up to this point to ensure not a single barbarian escaped.

As the barbarians fell and the space opened up, the soldiers’ movements changed once again.

Clang! Clang! Clang!

The gaps between the shields widened further, and from behind, the spearmen charged out, beginning their attack on the barbarians.

The knights and cavalry who had briefly retreated to rest leaped back into the fray, and the Penris knights charged from behind, swinging their weapons with relentless fury.

Hundreds of shining swords and spears whirled inside the prison made of shields.

The already besieged barbarians couldn’t withstand the combined assault and fell like leaves.

“Argh! You bastards!”

“I’ll curse you!”

“Our gods will never forgive you!”

Screams of pain and curses resounded across the battlefield.

Some barbarians tried to flee, but there was nowhere to run.

The front and both sides were blocked by shields, and from behind, the knights were trampling over their fallen comrades to push in. They were perfectly encircled.

“Ugh!”

No matter how belligerent the warriors were, they couldn’t withstand such a situation.

In a state where warriors’ blessings and the thrill of battle had vanished, they fought to the end, but ultimately, they fell one by one.

Covered in blood, Ghislaine finally arrived in front of Kushtu, who was an imposing figure with countless tattoos carved into his face.

Looking up at him, Ghislaine asked, “Are you Kushtu?”

“This guy…”

Kushtu glared at Ghislaine with eyes filled with rage.

His warriors positioned at the back had died countless times at the hands of this one. It was an irreparable loss. If things continued like this, even if they won the battle, the Soundwind Tribe would be devoured by another major tribe.

“I won’t forgive you!”

Kushtu gathered all the mana he could muster.

Occasionally, some barbarians could wield mana. They referred to it as “Warrior’s Blessing.”

Kushtu, twice the size of Ghislaine, raised a massive axe.

Warriors were still being slaughtered around them. He had to eliminate this foe quickly and regain control of the battlefield.

As a tribe chief, he should avoid taking direct action to maintain his dignity, but he was willing to risk that much for the sake of resolving the current crisis.

If he retreated now, his pride as the strongest warrior of the North would be shattered.

“Die!”

Whoooosh!

Clang!

Ghislaine crossed his axes to block Kushtu’s swing. The sheer strength behind it pushed Ghislaine’s feet back, digging into the ground.

“Oh, not bad? You really are the chief of a major tribe.”

Being a chief isn’t something anyone can do. It’s reserved for the strongest warrior in the tribe. That is their tradition and honor.

Kushtu had the power befitting a chief. His strength exceeded that of the knights renowned in the kingdom.

“I am the great warrior Kushtu of the North!”

Crash! Crash!

Every swing of Kushtu’s axe seemed to split the ground. It was indeed tremendous power.

But that was all. His technique was lacking. Dodging lightly, Ghislaine seized the opening and struck at Kushtu’s neck.

Thud!

Blood gushed from Kushtu’s neck as the axe dug in precisely into his carotid artery, yet he gritted his teeth and swung his axe again.

Whoooosh!

Stepping back, Ghislaine wore an astonished expression.

“Huh, so you’re trying to tank that with your body?”
