“Please come to the tournament!”
To summarize the desperate pleas of the organizer, they were asking me to participate in the 11th Abyss Streamer Tournament.
As soon as I heard it, my immediate thought was, “Do I really have to? I’m not that interested…”
Lately, I’ve been appearing too often on official broadcasts and just wanted to chill with my personal streams.
But still, it was worth listening to the pitch since the organizer was not just casually reaching out; there had to be a serious reason for their extreme humility.
As I quietly listened, the situation sounded very grave.
Secret relationships between directors and players, teams going bust, and viewers turning their backs on the tournament.
“Please! The only person who can save the Abyss Streamer Tournament is Kayak!”
“Hmm…”
Wait, is it really right for me to go out there and fix this? The scale of the disaster seems way bigger than I thought!
As I thought this over, frantic voices reached me through my headphones.
“The star of the first Abyss Tournament! The cheat code for reviving failed broadcasts, Kayak, please!”
“Stop, stop, everyone calm down.”
The organizer looked half-panic-stricken, apparently.
I heard that due to the recent incidents, there were discussions at higher-ups about scrapping the Abyss Streamer Tournament altogether.
The incident from the last tournament had garnered too much attention, even making its way into the news.
If the program were to be canceled, the organizer couldn’t escape responsibility.
Of course, they were not at fault. How could they have foreseen the actions of the director and players during the tournament and prevent it beforehand?
But that’s just how social life worked. When things go haywire, someone has to take the blame. Even if they don’t, their standing would definitely shrink.
If it came to that, it would be truly heartbreaking. I held a significant attachment to the Abyss Streamer Tournament myself.
It was the official broadcast designed by Taker and the very first event I participated in, marking the start of my journey in the internet broadcasting scene. It introduced me to this world.
That was all in the past, though. I picked apart memories wrapped in the soft glow of nostalgia one by one.
I meticulously dug through my memories one by one.
‘A lot has happened during this time.’
Looking back, I wonder—did I ever expect things to turn out this way?
Back then, I thought it would be lucky if at least 100 people tuned in to watch my broadcast, and maybe 500 at most. Now, the numbers are on a whole different level.
I can still recall the thrill I felt when I first applied for the tournament and sent in my video. The excitement and butterflies of that first experience haven’t faded at all with time.
As I continue to think, I find myself leaning towards participating.
All things considered, the Abyss Streamer Tournament really kickstarted my broadcasting journey.
In a sense, it’s not an exaggeration to say that I’m living large and dominating the big leagues all because of that tournament.
I was fortunate to start my broadcast, and shortly after, the tournament was held. I had old footage created by my current editor, and luckily, I met the eligibility requirements.
If I had even a few fewer followers, I wouldn’t have qualified, and I could’ve easily missed out on the tournament—thank goodness for luck!
Wait, eligibility requirements?
“Um, but if I want to participate, isn’t it impossible for me to join?”
“Why wouldn’t you be able to? If Kayak wants to participate, I’d welcome you with open arms!”
“No, it’s not that….”
I don’t remember exactly, but I recall there being a tier limit for the tournament.
It didn’t really matter how low your tier was, but to prevent serious skill gaps, top-tier users couldn’t compete as players.
If the gap between low tiers and high tiers became severe, those in the low tiers would just be stepping stones for the high tiers, mere fodder for mad movie slaughter shows. Instead, they had separate higher-tier competitions.
My tier is currently Challenger, which means I’m a top-tier user. So, participating in the tournament would be impossible.
However, in response to my statement, the employee spoke up as if he had just realized something.
“Oh, I misunderstood the explanation.”
“Can I participate?”
“Yes.”
Then he said something rather unexpected.
“If you participate, Kayak, you can come out as a director instead of a player.”

[Is this Abyss Streamer Tournament really okay? LOL]
“Really? Lol.”
“I heard from a friend who’s involved with Trko that no one signed up.”
“After that disaster last time, who would apply?”
“Has the cooldown for the Abyss Streamer Tournament passed already?”
“It’s pretty sad for the last batch; they practiced 14 hours a day aside from eating and sleeping, and the tournament flopped. Haha.”
“The King of Water, Il-soon, destroyed the tournament.”
“They came up with a terrible team name—what’s up with NFTs?”
“Still, no way nobody signed up at all. Even if the Abyss was a mess, it’s a big opportunity for Hako players.”
“Nah, Hako is only Hako, you can’t expect them to pull in the 20-30% range.”
“Wait, is it really that serious?”
“They say mid-tier and newbies just didn’t sign up at all, lol.”
“The tournament is doomed… Looks like not even ten thousand will watch.”
“Our Ins is going to the Abyss Streamer Tournament this time, bring over some logs!”
“
“Only been streaming for 7 months, and she’s doing well in the Abyss and interacting with people. She dreams of going to the Abyss tournament, so I couldn’t talk her out of it. Please bring some logs!”
“So she’s pretty?”
“Yeah, she’s prettier than most female streamers.”
“Is she well-endowed?”
“Yep, bigger than most female streamers.”
“What about her butt?”
“Yep, she’s got wide hips and it’s shapely.”
“Why is everyone comparing to female streamers, lol?”
“‘Cause female streamers are the easy standard.”
“These damn crazy guys, whether it’s the ones asking or the ones answering…”
“It feels like a pimp is running around selling his goods, so ridiculous, haha.”
“When I just read the comments, I thought they were pure fans, and it warmed my heart, but then I saw the comments and my innocence was shattered.”
“It’s not about bringing logs; I’m saying I don’t even know if the tournament will run smoothly!”
“Seriously, haha, the house is burning down, and they’re asking for logs.”
“Logs while your house is on fire, seriously, dude!”
“Still, bring them over… Going to the tournament seems like self-satisfaction for her; as long as the viewer count looks good, everything is fine.”
“I just looked it up, and yeah, she is pretty. Following her!”
“The Abyss Streamer Tournament, commonly known as the Abyss Tournament, was a regular content for viewers.”
“The tournament content allowed for legal immersion, from auctions to team practices and the main matches.”
“You could watch and comment on everything, talking about how they should have done this or that, with plenty of material to discuss. Plus, it was a way to find the culprit of the losing team.”
Well, it had to be done! There’s an overflowing amount of content to discuss about that. Plus, let’s find the culprit behind the losing team while we’re at it!
For the viewers who are constantly parched for dopamine, there’s absolutely no reason not to watch this!
But this time was different. With the previous Abyss Streamer Tournament ending in a dismal result, most people believed that, or maybe even the tournament itself, would struggle to regain its former glory.
Amidst that atmosphere, a post went up.
“What the heck is this??”
(Abyss Streamer Tournament roster.jpg)
It leaked from AwesomeKim’s broadcast, and why is Kayak on the list??
– Is this real?
– Who’s AwesomeKim anyway?
– There’s a Twitch staff who sometimes streams personally and shares announcements to satisfy viewer curiosity.
– So Kayak is back in the Abyss Tournament?
– Technically, it’s not impossible to join again, but…
– Isn’t it a bit risky to be in the tournament if you think it’ll crash?
– But how do you sell a name in that situation? LOL
– You mess with Kayak, and those 50 million Kayak fans will come after you!
– Isn’t Kayak a Challenger? If she joins, won’t the tournament be a disaster? They banned Challengers from joining after the fifth round!
– Nah, she’s coming as a director.
– A director!
– Didn’t even see that coming, LOL
– A star director, no less!
– Can Kayak actually coach, though?
– Of course, that’s why she’s joining!
– The brain and strategy director of the champ team from the last Abyss Tournament, the king of new strategies, is gonna be Kayak! She’s looking to win it again?
– Space out your words, come on!
– It’s like a divine revelation; I think it’s right that Kayak is entering the tournament. And I suspect that the roster was leaked on purpose to announce Kayak’s participation and have people pre-sign up.
– If Kayak joins, will others follow?
– For sure! Since there’s no big companies in the mix, even some mid-tier players aren’t signing up.
– Kayak has to participate to get that trickle-down effect!
– Breaking News: Hako’s popping up to sign up for the Abyss Streamer Tournament in real-time! LOL
– Is this Kayak’s influence?
– This must be the greatness of Camilla!
– Just Camilla, wow!
Kayak’s participation news in the Abyss Tournament started to flip public opinion on its head.
