Chapter 134 – The Belief War (4)
“Well, things are chaos in many ways.”
“What’s going on?”
“…It’s that thing that’s been happening since last time.”
As I lay on the bed, scrolling through the news on my phone, Kim Soo-jung wormed her way into the spot beside me as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
Ever since I revealed I was a Magical Girl, her behavior hadn’t changed at all. I thought she might have been shocked into distance, but she didn’t.
In fact, she said it was a relief that I was a Magical Girl. I guess she felt safe now that she only had to worry about herself.
Truly, not just those fighting on the front lines were growing stronger.
“So, what’s the news about?”
“It’s nothing much. It’s a big deal for the country, but it doesn’t concern us, just students.”
I shifted my gaze back to my phone and chuckled.
The news that was breaking all day had to do with the revelation of treasonous acts by numerous current and former lawmakers, exposed by Lee Jong-pil’s evidence. The lists of those who had taken money and support from foreign nations while being involved in politics were laid bare, regardless of political party.
Naturally, the country was in an uproar. Not to mention the identities of those who had attacked Lee Jong-pil and failed, only to resort to self-detonation, were also suspected to be among them. Both online and in real life, adults were discussing this with rage.
Some even speculated that many politicians would be gone because of this, leading to a potential re-election.
“So, these people are the culprits? They attacked the injured Takilas and used the Special Task Force to provoke fights with the Magical Girls?”
“…Probably.”
“Those bad guys!”
Kim Soo-jung was angered as well. However, her anger seemed particularly directed.
“In the end, it’s all about their greed, betraying and tormenting those who were doing fine.”
“That’s one way to look at it.”
Apparently, complicated international affairs were not something she was concerned with. As I saw it, what I had swept away, The One Road, was simply a drop in the ocean.
“But the real important thing is different.”
“Wh-what’s important?”
“What will happen to the international situation? It’s not my business, but I’m curious.”
The evidence Lee Jong-pil had was clear-cut. Most of it was meant for domestic use, but it still documented precise information about the other party as well.
Had the media received a tip-off? They didn’t mention it, but everyone in the world already knew. Where The One Road’s main entity was and which forces had been continuously revealing their ambitions around it.
“In my view, the Magical Girls, who are getting stronger, could become a strategic weapon that follows in the wake of nuclear weapons. They could turn the tide and become a powerful armament.”
“Does that mean a war will break out?”
Kim Soo-jung seemed to pick up on my words. She looked somewhat fearful of the vague concept of war.
“Who knows.”
I didn’t give a clear answer to her question. It was indeed an interesting and amusing situation, but I wasn’t eager to know.
The choice ultimately lay in the hands of the people. Whether to endure the harm and impose sanctions or to bolster their own strength to counter without engaging in conflict.
It didn’t seem likely that things would escalate into an all-out war. Even if they faced condemnation from the world, I doubted they would just stop. It was a refreshing situation that even I found hard to predict.
“So, is our country safe?”
“Why do you think so? Just yesterday in the middle of the city, someone was attacked.”
“Other Magical Girls can handle that level of threat. Besides, Takilas is here.”
As Kim Soo-jung lightly smiled and mentioned my name, I fell momentarily silent.
“I think I have a decent grasp of Takilas’ personality. Takilas, who abhors those who dare to harm her, wouldn’t ignore something that could involve those around her.”
She nodded as if she was certain. I was a bit taken aback by her eerily accurate psychological analysis. Maybe because I had been living without much thought, I suddenly realized how simply I had been living.
At this point, most people probably knew my behavioral patterns.
“…I guess so.”
Of course, I didn’t deny that. I would indeed act that way. Someone might exploit or use this knowledge. I could have found that somewhat cute.
“Are you really sure about that? If I think you won’t step in, I’m pretty sure you’d go crazy.”
[Shut up. I’m neither a hero saving the world nor a dictator trying to rule it. I don’t care about the petty squabbles amongst them.]
Ren chuckled, but I tumbled around and squashed them with my body. Aria, a warrior of justice who couldn’t stand injustice, learned to control herself as she faced the harsh walls of reality.
After all, it was a world driven by mutual interests. Fighting and competing was the norm. Unless you were a total weirdo, that’s how most people… live.
“…!”
“Ah! What the heck!”
But at that moment, I shot up with wide eyes. Kim Soo-jung was startled and tumbled off the bed, while the headboard of my bed slammed against my head, making the metal frame crack and dent.
“Why? What’s wrong?!”
“What the hell.”
As Kim Soo-jung, who was upside down on the floor, got up and asked, I couldn’t answer her. I dashed to the window.
“What on earth…”
I looked westward, my face paling.
I could feel the power of an existence that should not be here, faintly emanating from that direction. A force that absolutely should not exist even as specks of dust in this world.
‘Holy Power.’
This power was undeniably the Holy Power possessed by angels of the Celestial Realm.
*
[Saint. There’s a task you must undertake.]
“Ah, Asmael?!”
Saint Elysia Garrett. Recently, at the Demon King’s secret request, she had used the descent of angels. Now awake with her eyes wide open, she realized she had just received a revelation.
The humming voice in her head was the message from the high angel Asmael. She immediately assumed a posture of reverence, receiving the command from the angel she served—a command that was hard to hear even once.
“Please, speak.”
[I shall assign you a mission. For the peace of this world, for the glory of the Celestial Realm, a mission for your own accomplishment.]
“I will do anything.”
There was no hesitation in her response. This High Saint had been born and raised within the church and was chosen as Asmael’s saint.
She was truly a saint to her core, and her unwavering faith was both her principle and essence.
[Saint, from now on, you shall become a Magical Girl.]
“I understand. Of course, I will become a Magical Girl… Huh?”
But this command from Asmael was so bizarre that even the world’s saint had to question it. Momentarily taken aback, she pondered.
Although she would follow any command, she was unsure if saying she understood was correct, as she didn’t know what a Magical Girl was.
“Are you asking me to become a magician?”
[What a Magical Girl is will be revealed by Yggdrasil. You shall receive this, and then go to Earth to convey our will there.]
Asmael sent something to the confused Elysia. She received it cautiously, her sky-blue eyes shining, wrapped in a holy light.
It was a ring embedded with jewels. In other words, it was the connector of a Magical Girl.
“I will do as commanded. For the light.”
Elysia slipped it onto her finger. Without a moment’s hesitation, she activated it.
That was Asmael’s command to her.
“Welcome. Special Girl.”
“Wh-where is this…?”
“I have heard from Asmael. I am the Cosmic Tree Yggdrasil. The source of the Magical Girls. From now on, I will transform you into a Magical Girl.”
Elysia, upon moving through space, suddenly realized she was in a cosmic realm she had never imagined. Unlike Takilas or Asmael, her concept of space was rather limited.
To her, Yggdrasil approached with jewel-like eyes sparkling.
“A Magical Girl is an embodiment of justice. Are you not familiar with it, Saint?”
“Justice. Yes, indeed.”
Elysia answered without a moment’s hesitation. The laws of the Celestial Realm, the divine revelations. That was her justice as the saint. Her values and beliefs were solid without a shred of doubt.
Yggdrasil smiled meaningfully before starting a brief explanation. After all, Elysia was a girl who had lived a ‘dense’ life for her age, like Rene.
“However, you will be made a Magical Girl without going through the Fairy Company. You will need an agency to receive a mascot and operate more freely.”
“An agency?”
“Go there and find this child. Rana is still young, but she takes care of many like you… so she will likely understand my intentions. But this is a secret.”
After finishing the Magical Girl contract, Yggdrasil opened a Dimension Gate for Elysia. That gate led to Rana Land, Rana’s company.
Unexpectedly, Rana found herself stuck with another bombshell.
