Even though World of Arseria is supposed to be realistic, the reasons it doesn’t feel like reality are scattered all over.
For instance, when an enemy falls, any gory scene is automatically mosaiced and bodies don’t stay; they disappear over time.
Conversations with NPCs are the same. At first, it’s easy to mistake them for real people, but that only happens when interacting on specific topics.
They don’t unfold their stories. When you ask them what they had for dinner yesterday or about their family members, they zip their mouths shut like they’ve hit a lag spike.
That’s why I found the NPC named Adella particularly intriguing. Her reactions were so vivid that I nearly felt like I was dueling with a real person, and unless you dig deep into the conversation, it’s hard to feel any sense of discrepancy.
It’s like comparing a robot with implanted memories to a dementia patient who has lost memories. Adella was closer to the latter.
Once I started to recognize her as a person, that impression stuck in my head and wouldn’t fade away.
What exactly determines humanity? Acting like a human is a condition that can easily be met by mimicking humans. I even once had an attachment to the Fox Merchant Liri, who sold old boots and potions in Legacy of Legends back when I was a kid.
I had no idea how advanced technology had become in this era, but if game NPCs are at this level, it seems a technological revolution might be just around the corner.

In the midst of catching my breath on the battlefield, an imaginary trumpet sound rang out, followed by a halo of donations fluttering in.

Once again ducking her head to avoid an arrow that flew towards her from behind.
In a first-person perspective, the arrow lodged into the ground made a thwack.
It wasn’t just a simple lead arrow but one with an explosive scroll attached.
She stomped down hard on the rolling shield to bounce and hide her body.
Crash!
“The need to maintain a broad field of view was just illustrated in yesterday’s situation, allowing me to avoid the archer’s aimed attack behind the knight without sustaining damage. When taking cover, I reduced the possibilities that could attack me to six significant options and should keep my posture ready to respond to the most dangerous attacks.”

But before I had any time to catch my breath, an armored knight charged forth, swinging a great sword aiming at Na-me behind the shield.

The shield turned and snugly deflected the heavy attack, but it sent Na-me swaying. Heavy attacks always come with recoil.
The retrieved great sword aimed for a speedy horizontal strike.

“I quickly responded to the attacks that I couldn’t initially block with the spells I had cast beforehand, and by receiving the enemy’s attacks with minimal damage, I was able to obtain a better weapon immediately.”

As a knight lost his grip on the handle, I rushed in close, landing a punch to the face and a swift elbow to the abdomen. He must have had good endurance because Na-me dealt a significant blow to his brow.
