Chapter 222

[ShootingStar! A fan game created by viewers?! Thank you so much for loving it!!! So let’s dive in right now! The goal, of course, is to clear my first playthrough!!! #Star’sFlow#IzumiKainoh]

[Izutomo]

[Evil Shrimp]

“Among the enemies, you guys are also showing up, huh?”

– Huh?
– What’s behind?
– Is this for real?

A fan game of Star’s Flow Production where we cooperate with fandom to defeat enemies.

There, when I chose ‘I’, for some reason, black Izutomos were appearing as enemies from all directions.

And a blue Izutomo was following me around my character.

Seems like quite a few Izutomos who haven’t played ShootingStar, as the chatroom was filled with question marks.

– It’s just Mei-chan
– The only character in many ways
– The creator intended this part

“Ah, so that’s why the colors are different…”

Of course, there were quite a few Izutomos who had already played.

…In simpler terms, it’s like this?

The black Izutomos coming from all directions were the ones causing trouble, the bad abuser types…

And the cute blue Izutomo following me was the good friend taking care of me.

I just have to trust this one, then.

…Ah. I see.

This is… the legitimate time for revenge given to me by the creator of this fan game!

Realizing this, I immediately fired my water gun at the approaching Izutomo.

– No hesitation at all, lol
– Please take care of the Izutomos

“W-well, it’s a game, so I can’t help it, right? But I can’t just give up… heh…”

– I can hear laughter in your voice
– That thing definitely just laughed

“You guys are the bad ones?! Yes! You always bullied me like this… s-so you’re getting punished!”

Right. I’m not bad at all right now!

As I asserted that and took down the first approaching Izutomo, two items dropped from there.

One was a shining star, the mark of Star’s Flow Production, with no name.

The other one was…

[Izutomo’s Sincerity]

An item labeled like that.

When I watched a video on the official creator’s channel yesterday, that shining star was experience points.

If you acquire enough shining stars, your level increases, which boosts basic attacks or passives, or you can obtain new weapons.

But what could [Izutomo’s Sincerity] be?

Well, I could just go closer and eat it to find out.

Thinking this, I approached the shining star and Izutomo’s Sincerity.

But right at that moment, another enemy approached from that direction, and I naturally aimed my water gun in that direction.

“…Huh?”

But for some reason, the one hit by my water gun was not the enemies coming from behind but Izutomo’s Sincerity in front.

“What, what, what is this…? I-it disappeared?!”

After getting hit by my water gun twice, Izutomo’s Sincerity released a heart effect indicating that the enemy was defeated, then vanished.

So I was left in a bizarre situation where the item disappeared before I could even collect it, looking for an explanation in the chatroom.

– It’s a bug
– It seems like Izutomo’s Sincerity is considered an enemy, and if you attack it, it disappears…
– Normally, collecting it would let the Izutomo behind grow, making Mei-chan stronger

“Ah, so that’s how it is….”

From the explanation by the Izutomos, I could roughly understand the creator’s intention.

Most of the Izutomos love to bully me, but there are also some who genuinely praise and support me.

But if Izutomos only show up as enemies, it might be displeasing for those types.

Thinking about that, if you defeat an enemy Izutomo, that item comes out, and if you collect that item, the ally Izutomo powers you up—that’s the system the creator came up with.

But since there was a bug causing that item to vanish…

In other words, my character needs to collect that to grow, and because of this bug, if I make a mistake, I miss the opportunity for growth.

It became a bit troublesome, but it couldn’t be helped.

Dodging enemies to collect that isn’t overwhelmingly difficult.

After all, it would actually be strange for a game released just yesterday to have no bugs at all… I only thought that for a brief moment.

“…Hmm?”

Now that I think about it, the item called Izutomo’s Sincerity comes from the ones who love to bully me.

Being able to shatter that sincerity… isn’t that actually an interesting thing?

Of course, I know those bully types secretly really like me… but since the time for revenge has come, I want to enjoy it thoroughly.

I even have an excuse.

I often play deliberately difficult in games, so I can just say this is part of that playstyle.

“…Hehe.”

– That laughter is ominous
– This is the pattern when Mei-chan has strange thoughts

A few Izutomos seemed to pick up on my thoughts with their comments… but it was already too late.

My mind was already made up.

Right now, all I need is the good Izutomos who pamper me!

ShootingStar!

Commonly known among fans as ShootingStar.

A mysterious fan game made by a fan of Star’s Flow Production that was developed by a single person.

The genre is a shooting game, easily inferred from the title, and it boasted an impressively high quality for a one-man development.

However, ShootingStar is, after all, a fan game.

While the high game quality is of course important, what the fans focused on most was ‘how well this person understands the broadcasts of the Star’s Flow members.’

In fact, this game features all members of Star’s Flow Production, not just one member.

Thus, it was only natural to hope that the implementation quality for specific members wouldn’t lag behind others, and if it did, they’d want to ensure it wasn’t their favorite character.

But ShootingStar completely dispelled those concerns.

Even if some characters might have less performance, one could say there was no issue regarding understanding the members.

This level of quality and understanding in a fan game couldn’t possibly come from a solo effort; it felt like it was crafted by insiders at Star’s Flow for marketing purposes.

ShootingStar was such a perfectly executed fan game that rumors about it circulated widely.

Moreover, the story involved fans cooperating with Star’s Flow members to defeat the evil forces… a narrative that fostered a sense of teamwork among fans, thoroughly implemented in the game as well.

For example, Natsune’s fandom, the Eighth Star, increases the attack power of Natsune’s basic attack, “Shining Star,” as the stages progress.

Nekoto’s fandom, the Harbinger, provides a resting space for Nekoto at regular intervals.

What fan would dislike such a fan game?

But there was just one member.

The only character that fought against the fandom within the game… was Izumi.

In Izumi’s stage, about half of the appearing enemy group ‘Evil Alliance’ are shown as Izutomos.

And of course, Izumi must defeat them.

Izumi’s fandom, the Izutomos.

Most of them genuinely like her, yet they often like to bully her… which was skillfully and boldly reflected.

Of course, if this alone was all there was, some backlash would be expected.

There are those Izutomos who purely like Izumi’s character and broadcasts rather than wanting to bully her.

However, the creator of ShootingStar was also thorough about this aspect.

Behind Izumi, distinctively unlike the dark enemy Izutomos, follows one good blue Izutomo, and the enemy Izutomos drop an item known as ‘Izutomo’s Sincerity’ upon defeat.

When Izumi approaches ‘Izutomo’s Sincerity’ to collect the item, the blue Izutomo gains strength, enhancing Izumi’s overall performance.

Because of this, as the stages progress, Izumi becomes stronger than other members, marking her as a growth-type character.

However, her base stats are the weakest, and the enemy Izutomos are stronger than other foes, making her character particularly challenging…

But that’s also proof that the creator understands the VTuber ‘Kainoh Izumi’ for various meanings.

Yet, there was one unintentional game bug…

When you defeat the Izutomos, the item that drops, ‘Izutomo’s Sincerity,’ is destroyed if attacked by Izumi.

Items that are supposed to be drops shouldn’t be destructible, but there was a bug distinguishing Izutomo’s Sincerity as an enemy instead of an item.

And once Izumi recognized that bug…

“D-die! And break! Disappear!”

– Huh?
– This is too much, lol
– Weren’t we friends…?

“W-well, friends can do this sometimes… You guys do this to me every day, right…?”

With more joy than ever… she began taking full advantage of the bug.

“…W-well, I do like you guys, though.”

– Ah
– That’s cowardly
– I’ve been defeated
– If that’s the case, there’s no helping it… (‘-‘*)

And without forgetting to crack those Izutomos’ heads, of course.
