Chapter 297: Inside the Coffee Shop
“Are you serious? I’m super excited!”
“Sister-brother romance~ Teacher-student romance~ Breaking through societal barriers!”
“So sweet~”
Yan Xinya’s eyes sparkled as she perked up when Ning Chu mentioned Zhang Shaoqing.
She slapped the table excitedly, like a dog seeing a bone: “I’ll help him as a wingman! I’m a pro at this! It was me who set you up with Wen Yang back then!”
“Still obsessed with pairing people, huh?” Ning Chu rolled her eyes at the Wolf Girl. “Is that all that’s on your mind?”
“And a few hundred English words~ I’m a bit better than you.”
“……”
She was left speechless and sighed dramatically.
In terms of English, she was actually worse off than a Husky.
“Little cutie~ Here’s your latte and dirty bread.”
A cup of coffee and a pastry were placed on the table. Ning Chu looked up at the cafe owner, who was in a maid outfit, and her lips twitched: “Sister, I really am a girl.”
“Isn’t being a girl even better?” The owner smiled, poking her soft cheek, “I haven’t seen you for a while, and you’re even cuter now~”
So, why did she have to come to a coffee shop for final exam review?
Ning Chu knew the owner meant no harm; she just loved teasing naive little virgins.
“But, studying?”
With few customers in the morning, the owner peeked at the textbooks on the table and cheerfully said, “If there’s anything you don’t understand, feel free to ask me! I’m still your senior~”
“No need, I have a genius with me.”
On Saturday morning, Ning Chu had arranged to study with Yan Xinya and Lily. She had expected to go to the library or a study room, but these two girls dragged her to a coffee shop.
She looked at Yan Xinya, who was drinking coffee like water, and asked, “Dogs can’t drink coffee, right?”
“I’m a wolf! A wolf!”
“Oh~”
Lily leaned against the wall, typing on her phone with both hands, probably flirting with guys online again.
She was a good student, attentive in class, and the final exams posed no challenge for her.
“Hey, Ning Chu.” Yan Xinya chewed on a pencil, asking, “Isn’t Zhang Shaoqing pretty wealthy? And he’s not bad-looking—why doesn’t he have a girlfriend yet?”
“With his personality? Really?” Ning Chu scoffed. “He used to like his childhood sweetheart, but barely confessed before someone else snatched her away at the start of school.”
“Now he likes a teacher… I’m not too optimistic. He might already have a girlfriend.”
“Don’t worry!” Yan Xinya patted her soft chest confidently, “I’m great at being a wingman! Just give me his WeChat! I’ll chat with him!”
“You do excel at shipping couples…”
Ning Chu mumbled as she sent Zhang Shaoqing’s contact details.
In the setting of the Small Royal Text, Cat Girl Qian Qian didn’t have a boyfriend yet, but she did have someone special in mind.
However, the villain took a photo of her, threatening her to develop feelings, or else he’d share her photo with her crush.
She sighed in frustration and continued struggling with vocabulary, absent-mindedly writing down English words.
So cool~ How did I even write this stuff back then!
If she were to do it now… she’d write Haidang NP novels!
But what if she got transported again and became the female lead of an NP Small Royal Text? She’d definitely become a force to be reckoned with!
Today, they were splitting the bill. Had she not been dragged to the coffee shop unprepared, Ning Chu wouldn’t be tempted to spend over twenty bucks on coffee and pastries for breakfast.
She took a sip of the warm coffee, turning to Lily and asking, “Did you sort out the guy who confessed to you last time?”
“No.”
“Is he still bothering you?”
Lily nodded in annoyance.
“So you’re still flirting with guys online?”
Ning Chu suddenly leaned over to peek at Lily’s phone screen. With just one glance, she saw the succubus hollering “Wifey” and “Dare to” in a fan group for a novel.
Lily instinctively hugged her phone to her chest, giving Ning Chu a silent glare.
“You’ll crash and burn eventually~”
“It’s just online.”
Though Ning Chu was pretty open online, she wasn’t on Lily’s level.
Offline, she was a cool little sheep, but online, she was a passionate old lady.
“Ning Chu~ What a coincidence!”
The cafe door suddenly swung open and a little vampire peeked in.
“Nana~” Ning Chu waved a hand in greeting.
Nana wanted to come over but, seeing the two unfamiliar girls next to Ning Chu, hesitated for a moment before finding a separate table to sit at.
After being cured of her fear of men by hypnosis spray, this girl remained shy, always looking timid around strangers.
Ning Chu expected Nana, as a supporting character in the Small Royal Text, to be on the lookout for a boyfriend to experience something new.
“Shall I come sit with you?”
Upon hearing the invitation, Nana hastily stood and darted over.
“Aren’t you the one who tried to steal Ning Chu’s man before?” Yan Xinya supported her chin, sipping her coffee through a straw, “So, you two are super close now?”
“We occasionally go to school together; my rental apartment is close to hers.”
“Oh~”
The Wolf Girl eyed Nana, who was shyly playing with her fingers and asked curiously, “Do vampires really need to drink blood every day?”
Ning Chu and Lily turned to look at Nana, their eyes shining with curiosity.
“Just a little bit is fine.” Nana’s voice was so soft it was hard to hear, revealing a few sharp little canines as she spoke, “I really like duck blood vermicelli soup.”
“Duck blood, huh?”
This is modern society; it’s reasonable…
Yet Ning Chu burst out laughing: “Duck blood hot pot is also pretty good.”
“Mmhm! And blood sausage!” Mentioning food brightened Nana up considerably.
“Are we playing mahjong later?” Yan Xinya suddenly suggested. “We have four people, so let’s play mahjong in my dorm!”
“Wait… I don’t know how to play; I’ve never learned.”
“You don’t know how to play mahjong? Then I’ll teach you!”
She turned to Lily and Nana: “Do you guys know how to play?”
Seeing both girls nodding, Ning Chu was baffled, muttering, “All girls know how to play mahjong?”
“Myself, Lily, and Lin Li often play all night on weekends~ Too bad we always miss one person.”
While it is true that mahjong culture is prevalent locally, all Ning Chu knew was Japanese mahjong and only online with hints.
If she had to play mahjong manually, she’d probably struggle to even sort the tiles properly.
Furrowing her brow, she was reluctant to learn: “I’d rather not; I can’t do it at all.”
Playing mahjong wasn’t nearly as appealing as going back to her rental apartment to type.
“I bought an electric stove for my rental; I need to go back and cook lunch to save money.”
“It’s okay! Come to my dorm instead! Lily also cooks on weekends! She makes really good food! She can even teach you cooking skills!”
Now Ning Chu was tempted.
Although most girls her age didn’t know how to cook, she was eager to learn.
If she learned to make a couple of dishes Wen Yang liked, it would impress him!
