Chapter 269

Chapter 269: Suspicious Lily!

“Coming back tomorrow?”

“Yeah, should be.”

“Be careful! Did you take the spray?”

“Yep!”

On Friday evening after class, Ning Chu and Wen Yang arrived at the girls’ dormitory.

Ning Chu brought a change of clothes. It was her first time staying over at a girl’s house, and she felt a little anxious.

But now that she was a girl, socializing with other girls was unavoidable.

“If you meet any girls trying to hit on you in these two days, make sure to tell me.”

“Sure, no worries.”

“You have to tell me!”

She was worried about suddenly getting punished and embarrassing herself in front of Lily’s parents.

But since Lily was a succubus, her parents should be able to understand the sudden surge of feelings…still, even if they could, Ning Chu couldn’t imagine the mortifying scene it would create.

“Hearing from Xinya, Lily’s family lives in a villa estate?”

“Don’t listen to her nonsense…”

Ning Chu rolled her eyes. “Xinya just likes to poke fun at Lily. I mean, Lily’s family must be good off, but it can’t be that exaggerated, right? A villa?”

“By the way, let me transfer you fifty bucks to spend these days.”

She suddenly remembered that all of Wen Yang’s money was with her, and hurriedly typed in the transfer while reminding, “Fifty bucks should be enough for food, no problem.”

“That’s a bit too much…”

Isn’t it better to have a little extra? Since Wen Yang’s money is in her hands, it would be hard for him to notice when she spends it.

This was the last month of living off her brother’s money! Next month, her novel would be published and hopefully start making money!

With the current trend of her novel’s performance, she might earn more than she thought! It could end up being her best-performing book yet.

Just then, two girls appeared at the dormitory entrance.

Yan Xinya was carrying a bedding bag, and Lily was dragging two pieces of luggage, making it look like they were moving.

“That’s a lot of stuff~”

Girls really do have a lot of things, but just clearing out summer clothes and bedding could fill up two suitcases.

There must be quite a few embarrassing items in there…

Ning Chu stepped forward and helped Lily with a suitcase. “How are we getting there? Taking a train?”

“Taking a taxi.”

“That’s pretty close, then.”

“About an hour.”

The school was located in the outskirts of the city, so an hour’s taxi ride could easily reach the neighboring city.

“Wen Yang! We’re leaving!”

“Okay, bye.”

Wen Yang watched the three girls leave, stretched, and prepared to head back to the rental apartment.

At the very least, he had to tidy up the place once a week to avoid it being a total mess.

Outside, they squeezed into the backseat of a rideshare car.

She gazed out the window, curiously asking, “Lily, what’s your house like?”

“Apartment in a residential community.”

“Oh~”

She thought Lily’s family background seemed pretty good. The toy links she sent were all quite expensive, about seventy percent more than usual toys—it had to be brand name.

“My princess Lily must live in a big estate~”

Yan Xinya joked, trying to squeeze Lily’s cheeks, but Lily dodged, almost falling back against Ning Chu’s lap because the backseat was cramped.

“Stop messing around.”

Lily expressionlessly stopped her.

“Okay~” Yan Xinya mumbled. “Are your parents easy to get along with? I’m a bit nervous.”

“They’re not home.”

“Huh?”

“My parents are working out of town.”

“Eh~ A left-behind child, huh?”

“……”

Ning Chu noticed that Lily was chatting more than usual, probably because she was only with friends…not counting the driver.

The scenery outside was getting more desolate and barren, with small hills on either side, and vehicles shuttling through tunnels.

The sky was gradually darkening, and Yan Xinya, feeling a bit sleepy, rested her head on Lily’s shoulder while Lily kept her icy expression, staring blankly at her phone.

Ning Chu just looked out the window, watching the hills fade away as buildings started appearing along the road.

“Are we almost there?”

“Yep.”

In less than ten minutes, the rideshare stopped in front of a residential community on the outskirts.

As soon as they got out of the car, Yan Xinya perked up, bouncing around like a hyper puppy pulling a suitcase, while Ning Chu surveyed the somewhat barren surroundings, looking at the forty-story residential buildings.

“Looks like not many people live here…”

There weren’t many pedestrians around, and there were only a few cars on the road. Even the trees by the roadside were short and bare, looking like they had just been planted.

This must be a new development area in the city; the facilities around hadn’t been fully completed yet.

She thought it might actually be a mansion or even a villa…

Although Ning Chu didn’t really believe Yan Xinya’s teasing, she still held onto a glimmer of hope.

But when they finally reached Lily’s door, Ning Chu realized that Lily’s family was indeed quite wealthy.

A single-unit flat with direct elevator access!

“No way!”

As soon as they stepped into the elevator, Ning Chu couldn’t help but exclaim.

“You don’t have to take off your shoes.”

She replied and hurriedly dashed past the entrance, her eyes shining as she scanned the spacious and bright living room, turning back to hurriedly ask, “How many square meters is this?”

“Two or three hundred?” Lily responded, a bit uncertain.

Yan Xinya quickly followed Ning Chu inside and started prancing around the room.

“Help me clean up,” Lily pointed toward her bedroom. “Just the bedroom.”

“Got it.”

Ning Chu curiously glanced around, but her attention was suddenly caught by a Cthulhu tentacle figurine on the coffee table.

She gasped, “Lily! You like Cthulhu mythos too?”

Lily followed her gaze, and her expression suddenly tightened.

“What a cool tentacle!” Ning Chu ran over, picking up the tentacle figurine.

It was an upright octopus tentacle—it looked quite exquisite, with tiny suction cups covering it, feeling pleasantly soft to the touch.

She had always liked such little trinkets and curiously asked Lily, “Where’d you buy it? It’s so cool!”

“……”

“The base is also a suction cup~” Ning Chu fiddled with the tentacle, looking up to ask, “Why are you blushing?”

Lily stammered but turned her head away, remaining silent, and hurried into her bedroom.

“How come you like this kind of stuff?” Yan Xinya leaned in to take a look. “Octopus tentacles…they’re pretty tasty.”

Ning Chu handed the figurine to Wolf Girl and dashed after Lily, but Lily hurried even faster, almost diving into her bedroom.

When she followed her in, she found Lily trying to hide something from the bedside table into a drawer.

“If I want it, I can get one myself, okay?”

She looked at Lily’s panicked back and rolled her eyes.

“……”

“How much was it?”

“Umm, it depends on the size…a few hundred bucks, I guess.”

But seeing the suspicious panic and blush on Lily’s face, Ning Chu began to realize something was off.

Lily wasn’t usually this stingy; she had once given her sample-sized makeup products and even lent her a jacket.

Besides, given Lily’s composure, she could remain unfazed even in heartfelt situations. Why was she now blushing and flustered?
