Chapter 237: Unexpected Situation
“What are you looking for in a girlfriend? You don’t want your brother anymore, huh? You can’t bear to see your buddy stuck in the dorm doing nothing?”
“What’s more important, women or buddies?!”
In the evening, just stepping out of the teaching building, Zhang Shaoqing was all over Wang Jie, babbling non-stop.
He pretended to look pitiful, trying to use their brotherhood to keep Wang Jie around: “Seriously! I treat you so well, we’ve been buddies for decades~”
“More like three months at best.”
Wang Jie walked ahead, with Zhang Shaoqing trailing closely behind.
Seeing that the brotherly tactic wasn’t working, his expression immediately changed: “Fine! You go ahead! Just roll on out! We’re done being brothers after this!”
“So you’re going to go home for the weekend? Haven’t been back in weeks, right?”
“Oh, you’re something! Not only leaving your brother behind, but also pushing me to go die, huh?!”
Zhang Shaoqing cursed loudly: “Damn it! I treated you so well! Now that you’re down on your luck, you just ignore me, huh?”
He dramatically sighed: “People come and go, the tea is cold~”
Ning Chu and Wen Yang followed behind, unable to hold back their laughter at Zhang Shaoqing’s theatrical antics.
However, their laughter quickly caught Zhang Shaoqing’s attention.
“You two still have the face to laugh?! Wen Yang, you got a girlfriend and just disappeared from the dorm! Partying every night! Still got room for me in that brain of yours?!” Zhang Shaoqing scolded Wen Yang, “I helped you find that rental apartment with Wenwen! And now look! You’re hardly ever around!”
“When have I not been in the dorm every day?” Wen Yang shot him a glare, “The past few days, wasn’t I just in the dorm?”
Ning Chu turned her head away, feeling a bit embarrassed.
Sure, Wen Yang slept over at her place, but it wasn’t every night! That’s just not true!
“So you’re telling me you’re always in the dorm on weekends too?”
“That’s hard to say…”
“Well, that settles it! Bah! Scumbag!”
“???”
Suddenly labeled as a scumbag with no explanation, Wen Yang scratched his head, shaking it in resignation.
Zhang Shaoqing just couldn’t stand being alone, always yapping away. For someone with his personality to be alone in the dorm truly made it tough for him.
“And you! Ning Chu…”
He turned to point a finger at Ning Chu but thought better of it—after all, a girl not wanting to stay in a boys’ dorm wasn’t really unreasonable.
“Damn it, all of you are abandoning me. Now I understand why there are so many lonely old people—unfilial brats~”
Ning Chu gave him a disdainful look: “Get lost.”
Playful banter continued as days passed, and Ning Chu found herself back in the boys’ dorm once more.
In just a few days, her desk had become a cluttered mess with all sorts of random items strewn about.
The dorm exuded a faint foot odor—she had never noticed it before while living there, but now the smell made her frown.
“Meow~”
As soon as she opened the door, a small black shadow zipped past her, clinging to Zhang Shaoqing’s ankle, biting and clawing at him repeatedly.
“Look at this cat, it acts like I’ve wronged it. Such an ungrateful little creature.”
Zhang Shaoqing complained while lightly kicking his foot, trying to shake Hei Dou off.
Wen Yang glanced over and said, “Hei Dou is just playing with you. Who told you not to buy it any toys? At least get it a cat wand.”
“You understand? You take care of it.”
“……”
He made some good points, but Wen Yang wasn’t really a fan of cats.
He silently started tidying up Hei Dou’s things, preparing to pack them away.
While Ning Chu was fretting over how to take Hei Dou with her, the cat, ever so considerate, had already crawled into an abandoned takeout bag on the floor.
What a stroke of luck!
She happily picked up the bag with the cat inside, measured its weight, and found Hei Dou wasn’t as heavy as Zhang Shaoqing claimed—about five pounds.
For a half-month-old kitten, five pounds was pretty normal.
That little wet kitten that once trembled in the rain, now had sleek, shiny fur and felt plump and bouncy to the touch.
“Ready to go?”
“Yeah.” Wen Yang had packed everything related to the cat and was set to leave with Ning Chu.
“Hey! Make sure you feed it well! Don’t let it starve!”
“Don’t worry.”
Ning Chu wasn’t a monster; how could she deliberately let the cat starve?
To take Hei Dou on the bus, she put a black trash bag over the transparent plastic one. Gently shaking it revealed the cat in the bag seemed quite content, even purring.
With smooth sailing for the next half hour, Ning Chu arrived at her rental apartment.
She placed the bag with the cat on the ground and turned around to see Wen Yang had already set up a low gate at the door to keep Hei Dou from sneaking out.
“Where should we put the cat litter?”
“Um.”
Ning Chu surveyed the area and decided to place the litter box outside the bathroom door, while the food bowl was set next to her computer desk.
Zhang Shaoqing even got an automatic water dispenser for the cat, which only needed to be changed once a week.
All things considered, keeping a cat didn’t seem too hard.
In the new environment, Hei Dou was a bit freaked out, hiding in a corner, showing only its reflective eyes peeking out.
“He Dou~ Shaoqing doesn’t want you anymore, you have to be good from now on, okay?”
“Meow~”
“Wen Yang! It understands!”
Only then did Wen Yang set the gate against the door frame and entered, glancing down at the cat hiding in the corner before asking, “Want me to go downstairs and get you something for dinner? What do you feel like?”
“Um… just get something random; I’m not that hungry.”
“How about some rice from down the street?”
“Sounds good.”
Seeing Hei Dou still hiding, Ning Chu lost her interest in teasing the cat. She opened her laptop and resumed her novel writing.
She needed to finish the beginning of the novel this weekend to send it to various sites’ editors on Monday.
If she could get a contract, the full attendance bonus was a given!
“Ugh, why does this feel so weird?”
Just as she was scribbling down a couple of lines, Ning Chu suddenly felt an unsettling heat and emptiness in her lower abdomen, anxiously squirming in her seat.
Wen Yang was just downstairs, was there a chance that this could disrupt the plot?
Her cheeks flushed, a vibrant pink creeping from her face and spreading across her neck.
She struggled to catch her breath, her knees weakening as she made her way to the bed, diving under the covers.
If Wen Yang came back now…
A lonely guy and a girl, getting all steamy!
Ning Chu’s decision about being naughty or not now fully relied upon Wen Yang.
She felt the bed tremble, turning to see Hei Dou curiously approaching, sniffing her face, and then gazing at the spot under the covers where she was hiding.
“Meow~”
A wave of extreme embarrassment surged.
This was no ordinary cat! This would become a Cat Girl in the future!
Essentially, she was being naughty in front of an innocent little girl…
Her eyes started to blur. Although her body felt weak, she still tossed Hei Dou off the bed.
No peeking!
At that moment, the door swung open, and Wen Yang entered, holding the takeout boxes. As soon as he stepped in, he saw Ning Chu hurriedly chuck Hei Dou off the bed as if she’d seen a ghost, quickly diving under the covers, not even showing her head.
“What’s going on? Up to no good?”
“……”
The room was filled with a faint aroma. As soon as Wen Yang shut the door, he was drawn in.
Ning Chu had no intention of sticking her head out now!
