Chapter 140: 139. Movie Theater
At the movie theater, Ning Chu was sitting at a round table, holding a bucket of popcorn, and staring blankly.
She didn’t know when it started, but she had gotten so used to Wen Yang’s presence that her heart raced whenever he was out of her sight.
When did she realize that Wen Yang had a halo of the main character to protect her?
She was fully aware of Wen Yang’s potential danger to her, but as long as he was beside her, an uncontrollable sense of safety surged from the depths of her heart, making her body and mind relax.
In the past, when Wen Yang’s advances became more straightforward, she might have considered running away from him, the school, or even this city.
But now, she couldn’t muster any similar thoughts.
She touched the hypnosis spray in her coat pocket, feeling quite stable.
“You haven’t even started the movie, and you’ve already eaten half the popcorn.”
“Then I’ll go buy another bucket,” Ning Chu stuffed the popcorn in her hand to Wen Yang. “You eat this half.”
After buying another bucket of popcorn, they could finally enter the screening room.
Following Wen Yang, Ning Chu walked through the ticket check and found her seat according to the number.
“It seems like there aren’t many people here.”
She mumbled, looking around; apart from a few staff members, she hadn’t seen any other customers.
“Is this movie not good?”
“I saw it had pretty good online reviews, but there’s a sci-fi movie released at the same time; most people probably went to see that one.”
Ning Chu shot a glance at Wen Yang, questioning, “Really?”
“Ah? Why not?”
Could this guy have ulterior motives?
She furrowed her brows slightly, and a scene from a book involving a movie theater flashed in her mind: the protagonist took Lily to the movies, and with hardly anyone else in the theater, he secretly used some tricks that made Lily cry without making a sound, causing her to drag him to the bathroom during the film.
This scene seemed familiar!
But the supporting character in the plot wasn’t her! Once Wen Yang lost interest in Lily, that plot thread should’ve been broken; logically, this scene shouldn’t have happened.
Ning Chu looked around again, still not seeing any other customers entering, which made her panic a little.
Oh no! Could I be Lily’s substitute victim?!
The lights in the theater dimmed, and the screen started to play advertisements.
The staff had left, leaving just Ning Chu and Wen Yang in the vast, darkened space.
“……”
Ning Chu felt really nervous, breathing cautiously. She glanced at Wen Yang’s expression and then at his flat abdomen.
Hmm, Wen Yang didn’t seem to have bad intentions toward her.
Just then, a few more customers entered the theater, which eased her nerves a bit.
I’m just scaring myself~
This was a horror film reminiscent of “Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio.”
Ning Chu crossed her legs, watching the attractive female ghost that appeared at the beginning of the movie, suddenly recalling the one in the teaching building at school.
That ghost was pretty docile and hadn’t caused any trouble so far.
She usually kept her distance from horror films, but she had to admit that this one was big and bright, quickly capturing her attention in just a few minutes.
But as the plot thickened, a few muscular men ventured into the deep mountains, and the eerie suspense began to build, making her toes tightly curl and her body lean back into the chair, trying to distance herself from the screen.
Wen Yang stole a glance at Ning Chu, seeing her little face tense, eyes flinching and avoiding yet unable to resist floating back to the screen.
Looks like she was already scared.
To save face, he had watched a pirated version online while Ning Chu napped earlier, so he wouldn’t be the one getting scared.
Wen Yang swallowed hard, various urges bubbling close to the surface.
He sneakily lifted the armrest between them, carefully leaning closer to Ning Chu, extending his hand to try and wrap around her waist.
Then Ning Chu noticed his little movement.
His hand froze there, and without thinking, Wen Yang’s arm was pulled into her embrace.
Well, that’s not so bad?
Although he couldn’t wrap his arms around her waist, being held in her arms also allowed him to feel Ning Chu’s soft, lovely form.
He couldn’t help but drift into some enchanting fantasies, only to be jolted back to reality with a sudden sharp pain.
“Yowch! Why are you pinching me?”
Ning Chu replied with a straight face, “I got scared.”
“……”
She glanced at Wen Yang; the light on the screen made it hard to see his expression.
So she viciously pinched a bit of his flesh on his arm and twisted it lightly.
His arm tightened painfully, looking visibly outlined, muscle definition barely showing.
That’ll teach you to have ulterior motives against me!
“You scared me to death.”
Ning Chu said calmly as she continued.
A few more times like that, and she’d really replaced Lily in this movie plot, and Wen Yang would probably be in so much pain he’d lose all enchanting thoughts.
“I’m so scared.”
“Yowch!”
Wen Yang hurriedly pulled his arm from Ning Chu’s grasp.
Although he acknowledged that Ning Chu’s embrace was soft, the pain was greater.
“Geez!”
He distinctly heard Ning Chu’s disdainful huff.
This is not what he imagined…
It shouldn’t be that Ning Chu was panicked by the movie, and he gently wrapped around her; she’d scramble into his embrace out of fright, right?
Rubbing his bruised arm, he sat up straight and continued watching the movie.
On-screen, a group of men entered the mountains at night and found a dilapidated temple to rest in. Cold winds howled at midnight, causing the broken windows and doors to rattle; a ghostly figure silently appeared in the temple.
The men didn’t notice anything strange; thinking the female ghost was just another traveler, they all gathered around her, chatting and laughing, the atmosphere growing ambiguous.
Ning Chu sensed something was off.
This movie seemed to have quite the boundary…
Just promised to be a horror film, and the first thirty minutes did set the scary atmosphere perfectly, but now it appeared to be heading toward action film territory?
Sure enough, the next scenes showcased bold ghosts taking a break.
While the boundaries weren’t as extreme as an action film—no glimpses of anything explicit, no real-life gunfire—the ghost’s delicate gasping still left much to the imagination.
Ning Chu frowned; ever since she’d seen some lines appear on her lower abdomen, such visuals easily led her to daydreaming.
She chose to look down but still heard the gasping sound echoing in her ears.
Thoughts began to flood her mind uncontrollably; her body felt a bit warm, and she caught a familiar, tempting scent again.
A hand rested on her thigh, the hot and rough palm making her body feel even softer.
“Don’t touch me~”
With a tone unintentionally sultry, Ning Chu pried the large hand away and shot Wen Yang a glare.
Hearing her teasing voice and seeing her alluring look, Wen Yang felt like she was intentionally seducing him.
Already prepared, little Wen Yang instantly perked up.
He watched as Ning Chu went from flat to shockingly eye-catching, and she suddenly jolted awake.
Oh no! Didn’t you just get it out of your system in the morning?!
Pointing at the honest man, huh?!
