Chapter 65: High Fever
Another new day, Elrose opened her eyes and slowly sat up.
But as soon as she got out of bed.
“Thud.”
Elrose’s legs went weak, and she fell directly to the floor.
Struggling to sit up from the ground, Elrose immediately felt utterly weak.
Ahh, so hot, so tired, my head hurts so much, what’s wrong with me?
At that moment, there was a knock at Elrose’s door, and Stella’s voice slowly came through, “Angelic Onee-san, it’s time to get up. If you don’t, breakfast will get cold.”
No response.
“Angelic Onee-san, sleeping in is not a good habit,” Stella pushed the door open and gasped, “Oh my God?! Angelic Onee-san, what happened to you?”
“Stella…” Elrose weakly glanced at her before losing consciousness.

Ah, so painful, so uncomfortable…
Her head felt like mush; any movement sent pain shooting through her.
And the heat, unbearable heat, as if she was about to faint.
Elrose lay in bed, her little face burning hot, red like an apple, eyes tightly shut, occasionally murmuring in pain.
Kendrick slowly took the thermometer from Elrose’s hands and held it up to look at it closely: “39.8℃, damn, how did it spike so high overnight?”
“Kendrick, what happened to Angelic Onee-san?” Stella asked anxiously.
“High fever; she probably caught a cold,” Kendrick placed the thermometer back in its case, looking a bit grim, “But the real issue is, isn’t this fever a bit too high?”
Luna, unable to contain her nerves, said, “If this keeps up, won’t it burn Little Belle’s brain out?”
“Come on, Luna, can’t you say something positive?” Lilith scolded.
“I want to say something good too, but the reality is right in front of us; what can I do?” Luna replied anxiously.
Stella was equally on edge: “Kendrick, Angelic Onee-san won’t be in trouble, right?”
“Of course not,” Kendrick turned to see his three anxious daughters and gently reassured them, “Ah, you all don’t need to worry so much, it’s just a high fever. You all had fevers even higher than hers when you were younger, didn’t you get through it fine? Just stay calm.”
“Lilith, go make some medicinal porridge to clear the heat and detoxify, the one you made for Stella before, you remember how to do it, right?”
“Luna, Stella, Elrose’s clothes and bedding are soaked with sweat. You both wipe her down, then change all her things.”
“I’ll go to town and fetch a doctor. You all take good care of Elrose here; remember to open the window to keep the air circulating, also prepare more towels and fresh water.”
“Alright, my girls, don’t just stand there. Today, let’s take a day off and work together to get Elrose better.”
“Yes.”

As evening approached and the sun began to set.
“38.6℃… still so high?” Kendrick looked at the thermometer again and sighed helplessly, “The key is, the doctor can’t find out what illness it is.”
Kendrick felt a headache coming on; Elrose had been unconscious for nearly a day, and yet they didn’t even know what was wrong with her.
“Kend, rick,”
Suddenly, a faint voice sounded, and Kendrick turned abruptly to see Elrose’s bloodshot eyes slowly opening, looking very weak, “Kendrick, what’s wrong with me?”
“You have fallen ill with a high fever, very high, and we can’t figure out the cause,” Kendrick spoke gently, “Elrose, do you have any idea what might be wrong with you?”
“Ill? Fever?” Elrose tried to think, but her head felt like mush, so she weakly shook her head, “I… don’t know.”
“Alright, I understand,” Kendrick said soothingly, “Just rest well and don’t think too much. We’ll find a way to cure you.”
Elrose nodded gently, not saying a word.
Seeing this, Kendrick didn’t say more, slowly walked towards the door, leaving Elrose a quiet place to rest.
“Kendrick, thank you all,” Elrose’s weak voice rang out.
Though she had been in a state of confusion throughout the day, she still vaguely felt that they had been by her side, caring for her meticulously.
Kendrick paused for a moment and then smiled, “No need to thank us. You are a member of our Nightmoon Tavern; this is what we should do.”
With that, Kendrick gently closed the door.
“Sigh, I owe them another debt of gratitude.” Elrose sighed softly.
At this moment, she once again felt that being taken in by Kendrick’s family was one of the luckiest things in her life.
They rescued her from the depths of the forest, cared for her meticulously, and forcibly kept her here.
Though at first, she was somewhat unhappy with this semi-compulsory arrangement.
Later she came to terms with it.
She was no longer a Shadow Demon, but an ordinary human girl. She needed to eat, drink, and have a place to stay, and she had no mana, no battle qi, not even a single copper coin.
Even though she possessed extraordinary experience and wisdom, her fate going forward would probably be like Gideon’s, embarking on a long road of wandering.
Fortunately, Luna had forcibly kept her here, perhaps because of Stella’s wish or perhaps because she couldn’t bear to see her alone. In any case, she had been kept.
And every day after becoming a maid, she was very happy.
Kendrick’s cooking, Lilith and Luna’s playful banter, and the adorably clingy Stella following her around every day.
She loved that feeling.
That warm feeling was far more comfortable than sitting on a cold throne.

Suddenly, a wave of weakness washed over her, and Elrose coughed several times.

“Catching colds and fevers, Shadow Demons don’t have these problems.”
“Cough, cough, cough…” Elrose coughed again, slowly sitting up, reaching for the cup of water on the nearby chair and drinking it all in one go.
At that moment, she suddenly noticed that the Heart of Shadow seemed to be emitting some strange light.
Elrose frowned and directly opened the long-unopened main interface.
